LectureAfter entering class a little tardy because I went to the wrong block, Ms Li Lian has already started briefing the class on what we have to show her later in class which is our Project Proposal. She also briefed us on the marking criteria and all the things that needs to be done for submission at the end of the module, which includes this very weekly report, a video explaining our final outcome and of course, the final artwork itself. Ms Li Lian showed us examples on how the report should be done and that she expects to see them updated every Friday before 6 p.m. The report will be in blog form (this) and has two different parts: Part 1 - Lectures and Instructions Part 2 - Feedback and Reflection (Experience, Observations and Findings) After the lecture, everyone took turns to have their consultation with Ms Li Lian. InstructionsThis instruction is not actually given on today's lecture but last week when Mr Charles was still in class. We were told to prepare our Project Proposal using the format prepared for today's consultation. In the proposal, we have to describe the project we are doing and whether or not it is related to our Final Year Project. The completed proposal is to be uploaded to the shared Google Drive. Here is the document for reference: Brief info on my proposal - I opted to create a fresh project that is not related to my FYP nor my PP1 as I wish to work on an idea that I have been wanting to produce for a while now. Having trouble understanding Chinese idioms throughout my school years and as a person who is not in favour of learning through text, I want to help not just students, but anyone really, to easily understand Chinese Idioms through visual explanation. Therefore, I would like to create a 3D motion graphics of Chinese idioms in which the animation itself would explain to the viewers what the idiom means. FeedbackThere was not much feedback on the concept of my proposal, which is a good thing. However when it came to the methodology, Ms Li Lian was a little bit concern about me using Cinema 4D as I have not used it before, she does agree with me on it being easier to use but considering the fact that I am not familiar with the program, she suggested using MAYA or 3DsMAX instead. I told her that I will consult the matter with Mr Kannan as he would be able to provide more insights upon the dilemma. ReflectionsExperience
The consultation with Ms Li Lian was very helpful as she brought to light some problems that I might encounter and suggested ways to overcome it. There was not much to talk about on my project for this week but I gained a lot from listening to my classmates' consultation period which made me think about my own project. I feel really comfortable talking to Ms Li Lian and would definitely not hold back from asking her questions when I am in need in the future. Observation From today's consultation, I have realised that I did not take into account the time I would need to familiar myself with a new software, considering that I will need to do so as well for my FYP. Also, I will have to work on my timeline in order to manage the weeks I have left to complete all the projects that needs to be done this semester. Findings Technicality has always been one of the biggest problems I face when doing a project. With the vast amount of software available, I would need to consider the amount of time I have to finish the project before choosing the most suitable way to produce the desired outcome. And speaking of findings, I am starting to panic over the realisation that there is not much time left.
